Appeared in the late 1980s and early 1990s, Electronic Dance Music (EDM) is a wide range of electronic music genres, getting popular in Europe, the United States and Australia by the early 2010s.
Originally designed for nightclubs, raves and festivals, EDM is produced for listening by DJs, who create continuous selections of tracks, called DJ mixes, as they move from one recording to the next.
EDM is an umbrella term for several genres, including house, techno, electro and trance, as well as their respective sub-genres.
